A man who crafted a rope out of bedsheets to escape hotel quarantine has avoided a jail term but been slapped with a $4500 fine.
Travis Myles, 39, was placed into hotel quarantine last month after he had travelled into Western Australia from Brisbane in breach of the border closure rules.
While waiting for a flight back to Queensland, he fashioned a rope out of bedsheets and scaled down four floors of a hotel in Rivervale. He was found and arrested eight hours later.

Appearing in Perth Magistrates Court via videolink from Hakea prison, he was handed a $4500 fine.
Magistrate Edward de Vries said Myles' actions were "stupid and selfish… even that is an understatement".
"You made a deliberate, clearly premeditated plan to escape quarantine," he said.
"What you did was arrogant, selfish and stupid."

Myles had pleaded guilty yesterday.
He is free to leave Hakea prison later today.
"Do the community a favour and get vaccinated as soon as you're released," Mr de Vries said.
