Wild winds for eastern states

Another windy day is forecast for the eastern states of Australia with warnings in place for parts of Queensland, NSW and Victoria today.

A deep low and trough is generating gusty winds, showers and alpine snow in south-east NSW and eastern Victoria.

Surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for NSW with warnings in place for the Macquarie Coast and Hunter Coast.

A gale warning has been issued for the East Gippsland Coast, West Coast, Central Coast and Central Gippsland Coast.

Strong winds are also expected to batter the South East Gulf of Carpentaria and Peninsula Coast in Queensland today.

A cold front is bringing a burst of brisk wind and showers to Tasmania.

A high is causing showery winds to ease in South Australia and clear in southern Western Australia and sending dry, gusty winds to the north.

The Bureau has issued a fire warnings for the Northern Territory today due to dry, moderate south-easterly flow across the north-western Top End.

The conditions are causing severe fire danger for Darwin and Adelaide River.

A fire warning is also in place for the West Kimberly coast in WA due to dry conditions with fresh and gusty east to southeast winds forecast throughout the day.
