Autopsy Shows Corps Member Killed By Police Was Strangulated, Her Private Parts Mutilated — Youth Group

Autopsy Shows Corps Member Killed By Police Was Strangulated, Her Private Parts Mutilated — Youth Group

A Youth Movement on Twitter, Arise Nigerian Youths has revealed that the autopsy conducted on Ifeoma Abugu, a corps member killed by members of the Nigeria Police Force in September 2020, showed that she was strangulated.

The group further stated that the autopsy also showed that Abugu's private parts were heavily mutilated.

In a post on their Twitter page, the group urged all well-meaning Nigerians to join in the fight to get justice for Abugu.

The tweet read, “Do you remember Miss Ifeoma Abugu of Abuja NYSC who was killed by Police in Sept 2020?

“The recent autopsy report revealed she died of strangulation and her private parts were heavily mutilated too, by the police. Please retweet as we seek justice for Ifeoma.

“Last year, in defence to cover this sinister act, the Abuja Police HQ released a statement saying she died of drug abuse but the autopsy reported the opposite. Ifeoma will not die in vain.

“The judicial panel has ordered the police to release her remains for final interment. We are calling on Nigerians to join us in seeking justice for her please."

A graduate of the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, Abugu had just her introduction ceremony with her fiance — as a precursor to their wedding.

Twenty-eight-year-old Abugu had just finished the mandatory one-year National Youth Service when she travelled to Abuja, to visit her fiance, Ugwuna.

At her fiance’s residence in Wumba village, Lokogoma, some operatives of the now-defunct police unit, Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) reportedly stormed the house, looking for Ugwuna.

But when they could not find their target, Ifeoma was arrested in place of her fiance. Efforts by her loved ones to get her out of police custody on the same day were not successful and the next day, she was announced dead. The officers claimed that Ifeoma had a cocaine overdose.

Ifeoma’s brother, Alex, said when they saw her corpse, “there were signs that she was sexually assaulted”.

We Are Coming For You, Nigerian Army Chief, Ibrahim Attahiru Tells Igboho, Dokubo, Others

We Are Coming For You, Nigerian Army Chief, Ibrahim Attahiru Tells Igboho, Dokubo, Others

The Nigerian Army will soon move against separatist agitators such as Sunday Igboho and Asari Dokubo, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. -Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, has stated.

According to the Nation, Attahiru’s warning was delivered in Uyo at the first Commanding Officers’ Workshop 2021.

Igboho recently declared that South-West was no longer part of Nigeria.

During his declaration, the self-acclaimed activist said the major resources of Nigeria were in the hands of Northerners, stressing that Yoruba people were being killed and their land taken over by Fulani herdsmen.

Dokubo announced the establishment of Biafra Customary Government in which he incorporated some parts of the South-East and South-South as part of the territory.

But Attahiru promised that the Army will deal decisively with every form of security threat confronting the nation, including those posed by the secessionist agitators like Igboho and Dokubo.

“The Nigerian Army under my leadership would remain proactive and jointly work with other security agencies to decisively deal with threats facing the nation.

“The Nigerian Army under my watch remains resolute and is poised more than ever before to decisively deal with individuals or groups that threaten the peace, security and stability of our great nation,” he vowed.

Nigerian Government Has Prosecuted 1,000 Boko Haram Terrorists, Jailed 500—CDS, Irabor

Nigerian Government Has Prosecuted 1,000 Boko Haram Terrorists, Jailed 500—CDS, Irabor

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, says the Nigerian military has prosecuted over 1,000 Boko Haram terrorists, while 500 insurgents have been jailed for five to 60 years.

In addition, more members of the terror group are to go on trial in June, he said.

Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor

Speaking at a National Defence and Security Summit in Abuja on Monday, Irabor said the insurgents had been prosecuted since the inception of Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC), saddled with the responsibility of deradicalising repentant insurgents.

The CDS, who was represented by the OPSC Commander, Maj. Gen. Bamidele Ashafa, also expressed the readiness of the military to execute the presidential directive to the armed forces and other security agencies to end all threats to national territorial integrity, including banditry, terrorism and kidnapping.

He said, “The federal government of Nigeria does not condone Boko Haram. Over 1,000 Boko Haram members have been prosecuted. I want to use this opportunity to say that over 500 have been jailed and are serving various jail terms for up to 60 years, the minimum term is five years.

“Arrangements are also being concluded to begin the trial of another set of Boko Haram suspects. That will start between now and June.”

Buhari Has Done More For South-East Than PDP's 16-year Rule—Governor Umahi

Buhari Has Done More For South-East Than PDP's 16-year Rule—Governor Umahi

The Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, who is also the Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, has said the region has benefitted more from the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government than from the Peoples Democratic Party’s rule of 16 years in the country.

Umahi claimed that the Igbo had a fair play in terms of economic and infrastructural development under Buhari which was missing under the PDP.

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State

According to Vanguard, Umahi stated this in Lagos while speaking through his Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Uchenna Orji.

The governor argued that the N10 billion airport rehabilitation, the 2nd Niger Bridge, the Enugu-Port-Harcourt Expressway and other infrastructures are pointers to the benefits the South-East states got from the Buhari administration.

“These are indications that this administration is helping the South-East a lot more than ever. We believe in constituted authorities, we believe in establishments. That is why we still have the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari. We also believe in the leadership of governors and so, our various shades of opinion will not be a barrier to governance.

“The South-East has abiding faith in Nigeria as a nation. The labours of our heroes past shall never be in vain. One of our most respected founding fathers, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe was in the frontline of championing the cause of one Nigeria, the cause of an independent Nigeria and we cannot for any reason renege from that vision. People express opinions based on a lot of factors. There have been issues of marginalisation and under-development.

“You would recall that the 16-year rule of PDP did not give the South-East any progress. So, these accumulated issues made people to share different opinions but the majority opinion goes. Our leaders believe in one Nigeria where there is peace and I think it is high time Nigerian government considers the issue of conceding presidency to the South-East, no matter the political party.

“It is important to give everybody a sense of belonging, no matter the party. We should fight for the corporate existence of Nigeria.”

Asked if Umahi is interested in running for Presidency, the commissioner said the governor had not said so.

“I know the governor does anything when he is inspired. For now, he is content and really saddled with how to deliver the dividends of democracy in Ebonyi State. So far, so good, we have seen in him a man of extraordinary ability, a performer, a pace-setter and God’s instrument and a vessel of honour in Ebonyi State. There is a great difference. Before he came on board, we had no confidence as a people but all that has changed.

“I want to say that despite our emotions, despite our sentiments, despite some encounters we must have had in the hands of criminals or bandits, whether they are of herdsmen or of kidnappers, that should not derogate from the fact that we can get criminals anywhere in any part of Nigeria.

”But essentially, government of every state under this federal system that we operate, including the federal government has a primary responsibility under the constitution to secure and protect the lives and property of the citizens.

“That is not negotiable. If any government does compromise that, that government will fail in its responsibility. Having said that, I want to say that the South-East governors are doing very well. In Ebonyi State, we have a strategic blueprint on how to tackle insecurity comprehensibly. On the issue of criminals, we have fortified security and we have put in place necessary facilities to checkmate criminals including making Ebonyi a smart city state whereby CCTV cameras were installed in different junctions in the state to monitor the activities of these criminals.”

Five Months After #EndSARS Protest, Police Refuse To Release Activist Arrested For Filming Brutality Despite Court Order

Five Months After #EndSARS Protest, Police Refuse To Release Activist Arrested For Filming Brutality Despite Court Order

The Divisional Police Officer of Onipanu police station in Lagos, Francis Ani has refused to release a human rights activist, Tunde Abass who filmed a police brutality scene, despite court order granting him bail on Monday, 22nd of March.

SaharaReporters gathered that Tunde was arrested and detained for filming police officers brutalising a citizen in Onipanu area.

A source said the the activist was severely tortured and dehumanised by the police officers at Onipanu division where he had been detained since Saturday.

The police have also refused to release him from detention despite being granted bail by a Magistrate Court on Monday.

SaharaReporters gathered that the DPO, of the station who is allegedly reputed for brutalising citizens, has continued to disregard the order of the court to release Tunde.

“I heard the the DPO, Mr. Francis Ani was saying, the arrest of Tunde Abass has put him in the spotlight for police brutality and harassment of citizens, and he has been exposed to the world on social media over brutalising and illegally detaining a citizen.

“He claimed his name is everywhere on social media for brutalising and detaining a citizen, the video he (Tunde Abass) also recorded is everywhere on social media" the source quoted Ani as saying.

In October 2020, young persons across Nigeria trooped to the streets to demand good governance and an end to police brutality.

The protesters were dispersed by hoodlums suspected to be sponsored by the Nigerian government and the ruling All Progressives Congress after two weeks.

Ekiti By-Election Violence Is Preamble To 2023 General Elections —Human Rights Lawyer

Ekiti By-Election Violence Is Preamble To 2023 General Elections —Human Rights Lawyer

A human rights lawyer, Ayo Ademiluyi has said the violence that erupted during the Ekiti by-election where three people were reported dead on Saturday is like a preamble to the 2023 general elections in the country.

He said in a statement on Monday while responding to the unfortunate incidence that happened at Ward 7, Unit 7 Iworo in Omuo Ekiti.

The House of Assembly by-election for Ekiti East Constituency 1 in Ekiti State was marred with the invasion of political thugs who shot a police officer and two other voters.

Also, about six people sustained injuries as gunmen shot sporadically in the air.

“At least three people have been killed, including with a police officer. Some other people also sustained injuries and they are currently in hospital,” an eyewitness told journalists.

The state police spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the attack but was silent on the reported killings.

“Some suspected thugs attacked ward 7 Unit 7 Iworo in Omuo Ekiti, shooting sporadically while eligible voters were casting their votes in a by-election of Ekiti State House of Assembly.

“In the process, six people were injured, among them were two policemen and one National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who are currently receiving treatment in Ikole General Hospital."

While reacting, through a statement, Ademiluyi described the incident as, “Ekiti By-Election Violence: the foreshadow of 2023 General Elections as INEC reaps whirlwind of anti-people's electoral attacks.”

“I write in response to the unfortunate event of the violence that trailed the by-election in Ekiti State, wherein three persons were killed, including a female police officer. The unfortunate incident forced INEC to cancel the by-election in Ekiti State.

“What is clear is that the Ekiti by-election is a foreshadow of the 2023 general elections which is being planned by all the dominant pro-rich political parties as an outright bloody conflict, orchestrated by them.”

The Lagos-based lawyer blamed the nation’s electoral body for their numerous excesses that have jeopardised the confidence of the electorate in the electoral system.

“I am of the view that the consistent actions and inactions of the Independent National Electoral Commission to block access to the electoral space, to wit, the purported deregistration of political parties, purported appeal records against victorious court judgments have reduced the confidence of the voting public and also constricted the electoral space. The unwholesome bloodshed that followed is a natural whirlwind that follows the wind sown by INEC.

“Going forward, I call for expansion of the electoral space by the Independent National Electoral Commission in order to provide a level playing ground for all candidates.”

Nigerian Government Reacts To Ibadan Lady Serving 10-Year Jail Term In Cote D’Ivoire Without Offence

Nigerian Government Reacts To Ibadan Lady Serving 10-Year Jail Term In Cote D’Ivoire Without Offence

The Nigerian Government, through the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission and the Nigeria Mission in Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire, has said its investigations into the case of Itunu Babalola, who is in a detention in Cote D’Ivoire showed that she is innocent and was framed up.

The government added that the former prosecutor in Cote D’Ivoire in collaboration with the police twisted the case against Babalola and accused the woman wrongly of human trafficking, leading to her conviction for 10 years, out of which she had unjustly served two years.

SaharaReporters had on March 15 reported that Babalola, who was based in Bondoukou, Cote D’Ivoire, is presently rotting in a detention camp for refusing to accept police “settlement” of N100,000 for the crime of burglary committed in her house.

The Ivorian police had allegedly threatened and resolved to deal with 21-year-old Babalola who reported theft to them in October 2019, but the suspected burglar was said to a top police officer’s close relative.

It was gathered that instead of charging the suspected burglar to court, the police perfected a plot to bribe Babalola to collect N100,000 for her stolen items, which she refused.

SaharaReporters gathered that when the police authorities saw that she was adamant and demanding justice, they prepared trumped-up charges against her and sent her to detention.

A journalist, David Hundeyin, who followed the case, stated that the woman had come to Nigeria to check on her sick mother in September 2019 when her house in Ivory Cast was burgled.

Concerned Nigerians had called on the government to intervene in Babalola’s case and ensure her release from the Ivorian authorities.

In a release by Gabriel Odu, of the NIDCOM’s Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, the Nigerian government said it would move to rescue Babalola having established that she was framed up by the Ivorian government.

The government said, “Following painstaking investigations by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission and the Nigeria Mission in Abidjan, Cote D'ivoire, it is now confirmed that Itunu Babalola, a Nigerian living in Abidjan was wrongfully charged and incarcerated for a crime she did not commit.
“According to the Chairman of the NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Charge D’Affaires of the Nigerian Mission in Côte D’Ivoire, Mr Mohammed Gana, sent officials of the mission to Bondoukou, a city eight hours outside Abidjan when the case was brought to his attention. Plans are underway to engage the services of a legal Luminary to prove the innocence of Itunu Babalola at the Court of Appeal after the accused had spent two years out of a ten year jail term for an offense she did not commit.
“Reports indicate that the new Prosecutor assigned to the case has given assurances of a fair and unbiased review and retrial of the case to secure the release of Itunu Babalola. Reports also allegedly indicate that the former prosecutor in collaboration with the police twisted the case and accused Itunu Babalolo of human trafficking hence her conviction for 20 years although the sentence was reduced to 10 years from which she has served two years.

“On efforts made to secure her bail, the prosecutor said it is only the Court that can grant her bail as she has already been convicted. We will continue to monitor the case as it unfolds.”

Nigerian Who Defrauded US State Of $8,000 Jailed Two Years, Forfeits Property

In Kaduna, the Federal High Court has sentenced Collins Samuel to two years' imprisonment for defrauding the United States of America of the sum of $8,000.

Samuel had pleaded not guilty to the one-count bordering on impersonation and obtaining by false pretences.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had accused Samuel of receiving $8,000 offered to Virginia State citizens under its Pandemic Unemployment Assistance by pretending to be an American.

The convict redeemed the $8,000 benefit through the Bitcoin wallet addresses he got from various cryptocurrency traders.

On Monday, Samuel pleaded guilty to an amended charge at the resumed trial, which prompted the prosecuting counsel, P. C. Onyeneho, to urge the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.

Justice P. Mallong convicted and sentenced Samuel to two years' imprisonment with an option of a fine of N500,000.

The court ordered the convict to forfeit his Toyota Camry 2010 model, an HP Elite Book 840 laptop and iPad model A 1396.

The court also asked the convict to return the sum of $8,000, which was found in his Access Bank account, to Virginia State through the United State Embassy in Abuja.

Similarly, One Okoh Chukwuemeka was also sentenced to two years imprisonment with an option of an N500,000 fine after pleading guilty to a charge of fraud.

Justice Mallong also ordered Chukwuemeka to forfeit an iPhone 6S, Dell laptop model 7240 and a Toyota Camry 2010 model, Punch reports.

The judge also ordered the convict to return the sum of $700 to the victim of his fraudulent activity through Abuja's US Embassy.

Christian Clerics In Ghana Organise National Prayer Against Same-Sex Union

Christian Clerics In Ghana Organise National Prayer Against Same-Sex Union

Some Christian clerics in Ghana on Sunday organised a national prayer against same-sexual relations in the country.

The one-hour, thirty minutes prayer was organised by the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values in collaboration with the Christian Council of Ghana and other Christian bodies.

The programme tagged, 'Homosexuality: A detestable sin to God,' held at the Church of Pentecost Burma Camp Worship Center.

An LGBTQI+ activist on Twitter, @UjuAnya, in a satirical post said, “Clerics in Ghana organised a national pray the gay away rally. Their divine intervention was so powerful it reached central Pennsylvania. I officially announce I’m no longer a lesbian. I am now fully ready for God to send me a man I can give love, affection, and unpoisoned food."

Some social media users have opined that other issues need prayers rather than the LGBTQ+ community.

Twitter user @NeduAK_YYC posted, “And the church says Amen. They have nothing better to do with themselves. Rather than focusing on removing the multiple tree trunks in their eyes, they want to remove the tiny sliver of wood in other people's. Correct arabanko’s."

@Feefs18 wrote, “Instead of sending their prayers and stolen offering money to Ghanaian children & mothers in need, they’re busy doing this, truly not surprised.”

Another user @AbuBah tweeted, “Some things in Africa never change.”

Ghana has been persistent in its fight against same-sexual orientations in the country.

The LGBTQ+ centre, which opened in Ghana was shut shortly after it was opened.

It was gathered that religious groups, politicians, and anti-gay rights organisations called on the government to shut down the centre and arrest and prosecute those involved.

The National Coalition for Proper Sexual Rights and Family Values, a major group that brings together Christian, Muslim and traditional leaders opposed to LGBTQ+ rights, sought the shutdown of the centre, along with prominent church groups.

In a statement issued by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC), the Secretary, Most Reverend Philip Naameh, said, “We, the Catholic Bishops of Ghana, write to condemn all those who support the practice of homosexuality in Ghana. We also write to support the position of Lawyer Moses Foh-Amoaning and the Coalition who for years have been championing the crusade against homosexuality. We also commend other individuals who have spoken in condemnation of this practice. We do this because the Roman Catholic Church is opposed to this abominable practice.”

Describing homosexuality as “being incompatible with the creation”, they, however, said the rights of homosexuals as persons should be respected.

“Homosexuals should enjoy the same fundamental human rights that all people enjoy. But what are these human rights? By human rights, we mean the universal, inviolable, and inalienable rights that are due to the human person as a rational being possessing a free will. Human rights protect, or are intended to protect the dignity of the human person against the state and society.

“...Nevertheless, according to the Church’s understanding of human rights, the rights of homosexuals as persons do not include the right of a man to marry a man or of a woman to marry a woman. For the Church, this is morally wrong and goes against God’s purpose for marriage.

“We should point out that European Court for Human Rights has ruled that same-sex 'marriages' are not considered a human right, making it clear that homosexual partnerships do not, in fact, equal marriages between a man and a woman. The ruling was announced on 9 June 2016 in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France. In the light of the foregoing, we call upon the President of the Republic and Parliament to state unambiguously their position on the matter of homosexuality and its practice in Ghana.

“We also call on the Government of Ghana to close down the LGBTQI office space that was recently opened in Accra. Finally, we also urge the Executive and the Legislature never to be cowed down or to succumb to the pressure to legalise the rights of LGBTQIA in Ghana. God bless our homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong!”

Nigerian LGBTQ+ Activist Who Protested At National Assembly Quits Two-Day Hunger Strike

Nigerian LGBTQ+ Activist Who Protested At National Assembly Quits Two-Day Hunger Strike

An advocate for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer persons in Nigeria, Victor Emmanuel, has ended his hunger strike aimed at driving home his message two days after he started.

Emmanuel is at the forefront of a campaign to repeal the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.

In a video shared on his Twitter handle on Saturday, he had said he would be at the National Assembly in his one-man protest on an empty stomach till his request is granted.

Speaking with SaharaReporters on Monday, Emmanuel said he had come out with the #RepealSSMPA campaign due to the state-supported homophobia and consequent violence on queer people in the country.

He condemned the law which prescribed 14 years imprisonment for LGBTQ+ people while the same jail term is what some rapists are sentenced to, for hurting someone.

Emmanuel said, “What informed this protest is: first, the arrest of about 70 men at a birthday party in Anambra state. This is well reported. Indiscriminate arrests like this have been happening and it’s a great injustice. When these arrests take place, charges are not given; rather, the police extort and blackmail these victims.

“Also, I felt that the law had done enough damage. Socio-economically, LGBTQ+ people are affected. We can’t get jobs, especially those of us that it is visible we’re queer (masculine-presenting women and feminine-presenting men) and in cases where we do get employment, we could lose it if our sexual orientation is made public.

“There have been reports in the media where LGBTQ+ people have been expelled from school too. Families kick out their kids because they don’t understand queerness, and they won’t because the law forbids any form of education on the topic. I saw all these happening around me and I thought it was time that law was repealed.”

Emmanuel said his protest so far has earned him some mainstream and social media attention.

He said many Nigerians who didn’t know about the act before now understand its composition.

He said: “They thought it was just about getting married. But any human being with their humanity still intact will see that that law is wicked. LGBTQ+ persons can’t get access to health resources and materials because of that law. What I did, I believe opened the eyes of Nigerians and the international community to the barbaric nature of that law.”

According to him, some members of the LGBTQ+ community suggested he goes through legislative means rather than subject himself to hunger strike, sacrificing himself to a government that hardly listens.

Speaking on his experience identifying as gay in Nigeria, Emmanuel said he came out openly to his family in 2020 and had to leave due to this.

He said his father, had, however, kept mute about this.

He added: “We’ve spoken once this year and it didn’t come up so I don’t know what he thinks but I’m living my life regardless.”

He said it has been hard for him as a gay man living in Nigeria, especially as a student. Emmanuel said he has been harassed several times on the streets and some homophobic people had promised to kill his dog.

He continued: “I’m still in school. I’ve been harassed several times on the streets. I’m a very expressive person with my fashion. Sometimes I wear gender-nonconforming clothes (not cross-dressing), sometimes I wear light makeup, sometimes I fix my nails. These make people call me names and even though I don’t care, it’s still insulting to me as a human being.

“Recently, I heard from someone that some boys in my area are planning to kill my little dog. I don’t talk to anybody, never look for trouble. So yeah, I face homophobia too. Also, in school, I’ve lost friends and have been removed from some groups that were sort of important in my study. But it is what it is.”

When asked if he thinks the pro-LGBTQ+ policies the United States President, Joe Biden is introducing, will prevail on the Nigerian government, Emmanuel said though international support is good, the Nigerian government needs to realise that people of the LGBTQ+ community are citizens whose rights should be protected.

He added: “America can have their policies, but if they pressure the Nigerian government too much, then it begins to look like they’re trying to force LGBTQ+ on Nigerians, meanwhile we’ve always existed here. Most Nigerians think it’s foreign but what is foreign is homophobia, because it was when the white man brought us a religion that we began to hate some certain things, including queerness.”

Emmanuel also stated that considering that previous governments did not recognise the rights of LGBTQ+ persons in Nigeria, there was no hope that the Muhammadu Buhari-led government would change the narrative.

He added: "I keep getting this question and even some people suggested I wait till this administration leaves office. I tell them that what assurance do we have that the next government won’t be the same or worse? My point is, I will not wait till a 'favourable' administration before I ask for my right! We voted this government in and they have to listen to the demands of the people that voted them in."

On January 7, 2014, former President Jonathan Goodluck assented to the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013 (SSMPA).

The law criminalises consensual same-sex sexual activity and stipulates a maximum penalty of 14 years imprisonment for offenders.

The act also noted that only marriages contracted between a man and a woman is recognised as valid in Nigeria.

Health Workers' Unfriendly Attitude Responsible For Medical Tourism ― Buhari

Health Workers' Unfriendly Attitude Responsible For Medical Tourism ― Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday attributed the unfriendly attitude of health workers in the country to an increase in medical tourism by Nigerians.

Buhari, said this in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, at the official commissioning of an International Conference Centre and Telemedicine hall and six other projects at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta.

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari.

He emphasised the need for continuous training and retraining of health workers to deliver Nigerians quality health care services.

The President, who spoke through the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, said, "We still get all too often for comfort, disconcerting reports of not friendly attitudes of staff to patients, reports of unhygienic and housekeeping standards that leaves something to be desired even in the presence of sophisticated equipment and well-qualified doctors".

"Such simple failings like these are more frequently responsible for the loss of confidence of the end-users in our health system than even the lack of equipment.

"They are the triggers for the distrust that will lead people to go on medical tourism", he said.

"We have a lot of work to do in that area. I want to believe that the managers of our hospitals, after such laudable, fantastic infrastructure investment, will now begin to pay attention, not only to improving staff harmony and welfare but to retraining health caregivers for better professionalism that deliver service in a productive and courteous atmosphere based on the lessons we learnt from our traditional African hospitality".

Fadaka, Proposed Currency For Yoruba Nation Will Be Stronger Than US Dollar—Group

Fadaka, Proposed Currency For Yoruba Nation Will Be Stronger Than US Dollar—Group

A group pushing for the Yoruba nation's independence has said Fadaka, the currency for the proposed Yoruba nation, Oduduwa Republic, will be stronger than the United States dollar.

The group had on Sunday unveiled different denominations of the proposed currency on its Twitter page.

"Oduduwa national currency shall be called 'FADAKA', meaning silver .. or short as just 'FAD' Here is a 20 Fadaka sample banknote," it had written.

Speaking with SaharaReporters on Monday, the group said the goal of the Oduduwa Republic is to have the strongest currency in Africa.

The group said: "Economy is one of the major factors that will determine the value of our currency. Our goal is to have the strongest currency in Africa. The current strongest currency in Africa is Libya dinar which equals the dollar. Fadaka would be rated more than the dollar. Yes, it will be equal to a pound or even more."

See Also Money Group Introduces Currency For Proposed Yoruba Nation

The group said the insecurity in northern Nigeria had taken a huge toll on its investors' interest in the country, thereby affecting its currency.

"Northern terrorism has made many investors have zero interest in investing in our land. They believe that terrorism is everywhere, not knowing that it ends in northern Nigeria.

"If we successfully secede from Nigeria, the investors would be convinced; the lost interest would be restored, which will be good for our economic development," it said.

The group said it had the backing of Afenifere, adding that it would resort to organised violence if its request for the passage of a bill on a referendum were not considered by the National Assembly.

The group added, "We must invest hugely in agriculture; agriculture was our major investment in the old Western Region. Through agriculture, we built the first university in West Africa, the first newspaper in Africa, the first skyscraper in West Africa, Western TV, Tincan seaport and many more."

"We were also lending central government loans. So, we must reinvest in our agriculture. The largest resource is human resources. We have millions of wasted talents in the streets; we must also invest in human resources. We have people who can invent many different things. We must invest hugely in technology. The world is going digital now."

"After the expiration of the 30-day ultimatum given to the federal government to organise a referendum force majeure ends on April 16, we will resort to organised violence.

"It will be controlled under one condition - if the Nigeria government calls for the negotiation of our unity. We've told the Yoruba in the North to come back home. Moreover, we are not fighting with any Nigeria citizens and we don't expect the Nigerian government to attack our indigenes.

"We can achieve the Oduduwa Nation through restructuring. But it's not in our plans. It's either they give us peace, or we take it by force. But we are not praying for war, except the Nigerian government wants it. On April 16, we are going to reopen all our land borders; we will shut down our seaports and airports; that's the organised violence."

Leah Sharibu Gives Birth To Second Baby In B' Haram Captivity—Report

Leah Sharibu Gives Birth To Second Baby In B' Haram Captivity—Report

Three years and five weeks since her abduction in Dapchi, Yobe State, a United States-based group, US-Nigeria Law Group, has lamented the plight of the abandoned Dapchi "heroine Christian" schoolgirl, Leah Sharibu, with a report she has given birth to a second child in captivity.

It will be recalled that Leah, still held in captivity, was forced to accept Islam before being married off to a top Boko Haram commander after she refused to renounce her Christian faith.

Leah was among 110 girls, aged between 11 and 19 years, which the terrorists abducted from Government Girls' Science and Technical College, Dapchi, on February 19, 2018.

Convener of the US-Nigeria Law Group, Emmanuel Ogebe, said in a statement that "despite an offer by an American pastor last month to surrender himself in exchange for Leah's freedom, there has been no tangible response from her captors.

"That notwithstanding, intelligence received on the status of Leah indicates that she has delivered a second child in captivity.

"While we have not corroborated this by multiple sources, a usually knowledgeable source indicated that she delivered a second child late last year. This means both children were born in 2020, as the terrorists announced her childbirth earlier in 2020. We are still investigating this,"

To commemorate the March 21 third anniversary of the release of the Dapchi girls returned by their captors and "abandonment of Leah Sharibu", the US group, in its commemorative statement, said, "until she is released, Leah remains a poster child and symbol of a failed state that can't protect its children.

The group also lamented the "full-scale onslaught on education in Nigeria by Islamist extremists: Boko Haram wars against education; bandits mass kidnap of children in school; and religious violence against Christian mission school owners in Ilorin over hijab controversy."

We'll Neutralise All Non-State-Actors In The Forests, Says Chief Of Defence Staff

The Chief of Defence Staff, Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor says the military has concluded arrangements to neutralise non-state-actors and other agents of violence in the country.

While speaking at a one-day National Defence and Security Summit in Abuja on Monday, he said illegal occupants of communities, forests and countryside would be targeted to stabilise the country.

Major General Lucky Irabor, Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff

He said the military would ensure that the peace, which eluded the country, returns as soon as possible, DailyTrust reports.

According to him, it is no longer news that the nation experiences a wide range of national security threats, including terrorism, insurgency, farmers/herders conflict, ethno-religious conflicts, kidnapping and banditry.

"Our strategic objectives are manifold and imbued to neutralise non-state-actors and other agents of violence in our communities, forests and countryside to stabilise the security situation across the nation, to facilitate law and order, and lastly to provide the enabling environment for peace and development.

"These presuppose that the military would need support from other security agencies during the operations and would be required to give support to others at different stages of the internal security effort.

"On behalf of the officers and men/women of the armed forces, I pledge our unalloyed loyalty to C-in-C and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The mandate shall be delivered; fear and despair shall be extinguished from our land. Nigeria will have peace again," the CDS said.

He stressed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria were committed to ensuring the return of peace to different parts of the country being confronted by insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of security challenges.

If Not For Nigerian Leaders, I Would Have Won Grammy Years Ago—Burna Boy

If Not For Nigerian Leaders, I Would Have Won Grammy Years Ago—Burna Boy

Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, says he would have won a Grammy in 2013 if the country had leadership that takes the youths seriously.

The "Ye" singer won the 'Best Global Music Album' category at the 2021 Grammys.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Africa on Saturday, the award-winning singer said he would have achieved the feat earlier if he had the right environment and support.

He said: "If the environment was conducive and we had a leadership which took the youth seriously and certain infrastructure in place, I probably won't be winning a Grammy in 2021. I probably would have won in 2013 or 2014.

"I'm the stone that the builders refused when it comes to, you know, being here (in music). I was very relieved because I deserved it. I was hoping a situation wouldn't happen where I didn't get what I deserved."

Burna Boy said his experience should inspire others that they can succeed regardless of the odds.

He added: "I saw this moment happening back in 2012. I just realised it (the music struggle) was bigger than me. It's like I used to do this on the streets, and everyone is going crazy, but now I don't see anyone better than me.

"So, it's like this is serious now. Anything is possible. Wherever you find yourself doesn't determine your future or stop you from not considering your dreams.

"In the end, we're in an environment that doesn't believe in itself before they even think of believing in you."

He expressed optimism that his recent feat would open up more opportunities for Nigeria and Africa's music industry.

Blame Governor Ganduje If Anything Happens To Me—Journalist Who Exposed Bribery Video Cries Out

Blame Governor Ganduje If Anything Happens To Me—Journalist Who Exposed Bribery Video Cries Out

The Publisher of Daily Nigerian, Jaafar Jaafar, who exposed a video in 2018 showing the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, stuffing dollars in his pockets, has cried out that the governor should be held responsible if anything bad happens to him.

Jaafar stated this on Monday following renewed threats to his life, over the video clips which showed the governor collecting dollars, believed to be kickbacks from contractors handling various projects awarded by the Kano State Government.

Ganduje had in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation Hausa on Friday, said the government was making plans to deal with those who released the videos.

In the face of the renewed threats, the journalist wrote a petition to the Inspector General of Adamu, Mohammed Adamu, through his counsel, Barrister Abdullahi Gumel.

Speaking through his lawyer, Jaafar noted that although Ganduje is a sitting governor and a member of the ruling party, the IGP would handle the matter professionally, diligently and speedily.

The petition partly reads, “That our client (Jaafar Jaafar) has de facto been made persona non-grata in his home state and lives in perpetual fear in the rest of the country including Abuja. Thus, he and his family have essentially been hiding for fear of their lives.

“As if the above was not enough, Mr Ganduje recently indicated that he and his supporters are scheming underground to 'deal with' our client. Ganduje made this statement on a popular BBC Hausa programme, “A Fada A Cika”, which aired on March 19, 2021. He insisted that he would not reveal their plans despite an opportunity to clarify what he meant. See Also Another Ganduje Video Surfaces VIDEO NEWS Ganduje Under Fire Again As Fresh Video Nails Him For Collecting Millions In Kickbacks

“It is our client's and our firm belief that by the above statement, Ganduje clearly said that he and his supporters are scheming to harm our client. This is also an approval or ratification of his supporters past stalking, harassment and threats to our client. Importantly, Ganduje is by this statement instigating, inciting, aiding, abetting and procuring his supporters (especially those he is working secretly with) to harm our client, his family and property. This has caused our client unprecedented fear of violence and has alarmed and distressed him.

“Sir, the above facts must be seen in the contest of the fact that Mr Ganduje, being a sitting Governor and member of the ruling party, is one of the most powerful politicians in Nigeria. He has thousands of diehard supporters, including those directly and indirectly employed by him. Thus, his words carry weight in the minds of thousands of supporters across Nigeria who may be incited to attack our client.

“Sir, we believe you will agree with us that journalism and whistle-blowing are not a crime. It is our clients' belief that the footages they published, which they firmly stand to this day, are genuine and the accompanying stories are truthful and fair account of the circumstances surrounding the footages.

“It is against this backdrop that we write to you urging you intervene to: (a) investigate what Mr Ganduje is scheming, with whom and how and halt same; (b) protect our clients from further harm, threats and harassment from Ganduje and his supporters; and (c) get Mr Ganduje to issue a statement calling on his supporters and cronies to stop threatening and harassing our clients.

“In view of the forgoing, the governor should be held responsible if anything happened to our client.”
