Woman escaped Brisbane hospital quarantine in the middle of the night

A woman in mandatory COVID-19 quarantine in Brisbane has been found by police after escaping from hospital in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The woman, who has been identified as a close contact of a positive case, has now been returned to Princess Alexandra Hospital, where she remains in quarantine.

Queensland Police's Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said the woman left the hospital at "something like 3am".

She was tracked down by police at New Farm in central Brisbane.

"She's been returned under quarantine direction to the PA Hospital," Deputy Commissioner Gollschewski said.

He was unable to confirm whether the woman had visited any venues during the time she was out in the community.

Dr Jeanette Young said she believed the woman posed a "very low risk" of spreading COVID-19 in the community.

One of the new cases is linked to an infected nurse from Princess Alexandra Hospital.

"Remember, she's not a case – she's a contact of a case," Dr Young said.

The woman was tested on Tuesday and returned a negative result and is now being re-tested.

"I'm expecting that result soon," Dr Young said.

"So, if she's negative again – and then we'll test her again three days after that – then there's absolutely no risk."
