Man charged with spraying aerosol poison in Queensland shopping centre

A man has been charged after allegedly releasing an aerosol poison at a Queensland shopping centre, triggering respiratory reactions in six people.

Police said a man released a noxious aerosol substance, believed to be a poisonous cough mixture, near a cafe at Eagleby Shopping Plaza at 1.15pm on Saturday June 19.

The substance caused six people to become ill, including a 54-year-old woman who was taken to hospital.

Police arrested a 36-year-old Eagleby man at a home on Fryar Road on Wednesday.

The man has now been charged with five counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count each of serious assault of a person over 60, administering poison with intent to harm, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing drug utensils.

He is due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on July 14.
