One new local COVID-19 case in Western Australia

There has been one new local case of coronavirus reported in Perth, the Premier of Western Australia Mark McGowan has announced.

The case is a 32-year-old woman, dubbed case 1023, who went to the Mobius Health and Performance Gym in Joondalup and had "fairly brief" contact with a previous case.

"It's very early days," WA Health Minister Roger Cook said, but it appears she was not in contact with the infected person for a long time.

LIVE UPDATES: New restrictions in South Australia despite no cases

West Australian Premier Mark McGowan announced pone new local case of COVID-19.

She also went to the Craigie Leisure Centre, the Le Shaggy Chic Shack, Ocean Reef cafe and dog groomer, the Mirror Park Toilets, Ocean Reef and the Mullaloo IGA while potentially infectious.

Mr McGowan said while there is no lockdown in Perth yet, it's not totally off the cards.

"If we need to go further, we will," he said.

Previous case had 114 close contacts, 1036 casual contacts

A previously reported case of coronavirus, identified as case 1022, had 114 close contacts and 1036 casual contacts, Mr McGowan said.

Of the close contacts, who have all been tested and are in isolation, 27 have returned negative tests.

Five of her 1036 casual contacts have also returned negative tests, and more test results are expected to be reported soon.

More than 100 contacts of mine worker still in WA

"With regards to the Northern Territory mine site outbreak, I can advise there are 177 close contacts still in Western Australia who worked at the mine site during the infectious period," Mr McGowan said.

Of these, 149 have been tested.

"This is very encouraging but as I said yesterday, we are very concerned about this particular update and we won't be in the clear until we have all contacts returned negative results," the WA Premier said.

Basics are 'more important than ever'

WA Health Minister Roger Cook has urged West Australians to keep up with their basic hygiene, mask-wearing and check-ins.

"What we need to remember is the basics are more important than ever," he said.

"Good hygiene, social distancing, masks, testing, and using SafeWA and contact registers.

"Two final reminders: If you feel at all unwell and have been at one of the exposure sites, isolate and get tested.

"If you are eligible to get vaccinated roll up for WA now, the only way we can get away from lockdowns, although this is not a lockdown, and we can ease up on travellers if we all get vaccinated, it's an extremely important element, we are not safe unless we're all safe," Mr Cook said.
