Five arrested after police 'attacked at illegal Sydney house party'

Five men caught at a houseparty in the epicentre of Sydney's current COVID-19 outbreak allegedly attacked the police officers who tried to shut down the gathering.

Police attended a home on Unicombe Crescent in Oakhurst, in the Blacktown local government area, at around 4.10pm yesterday after neighbours reported a party.

When they got there, they found a group of men drinking in a garage.

They asked them to produce identification, and when they refused things got heated.

The 44-year-old occupant of the home allegedly pushed an officer in the chest.

Police tried to arrest the man, and that's when the four other men allegedly become violent and attempted to hinder police.

A scuffle ensued, with police deploying pepper spray.

All five men were eventually arrested and taken to Mt Druitt Police Station.

The 44-year-old home-owner was charged with two counts of intimidatig a police officer in the execution of duty, assaulting police, resisting arrest, and not complying with COVID-19 directions.

His guests - a 32-year-old from Mount Druitt, a 33-year-old from Leonay, a 38-year-old Rooty Hill man and a 30-year-old man from Hassell Grove - were all charged with a range of offences including assault, resisting police and hindering police as well as breaching COVID-19 restricitons.

All but the 33-year-old were granted bail and are due to appear in Mount Druit Local Court to face the charges.

Police received minor injuries in the scuffle.

The Blacktown council is one of eight currently subject to NSW's toughest COVID-19 restrictions, with all residents banned from venturing more than five kilometres from home for essential shopping or exercise.
