Despite the step forward in the rollout, GPs have expressed concern over the supply of the Pfizer vaccine.

"There is a lot of concern about the Pfizer vaccine but it has been made clear that this month there should be 2.8 million doses available," Infectious disease expert Professor Sanjaya Senanayake told Today.

"Hopefully all those GP practices that want to get the Pfizer vaccine should be getting it."

More than 8.2 million doses of vaccine have been administered across the country and that includes five million doses of AstraZeneca.

However, there is still no time line for when those under the age of 40 will be allowed to get the recommended Pfizer jab.

Australia's vaccine advisory body ATAGI recommends only people over the age of 60 should receive AstraZeneca.

The Federal Government has given the green light for people under 40 to access the vaccine upon consultation with their GP causing widespread confusion.

For people under 60, the risk of getting a rare but treatable blood clot is 1 in 35,000 after the first dose and 1 in 1.5 million after the second dose.

More than two million Australians have had the AstraZeneca jab. So far, just two people have died from clotting.
