Hundreds of people sleeping rough on the street of NSW are being given temporary accommodation as the state's winter COVID-19 lockdown continues.
More than 700 people have already been put into temporary housing to help prevent the spread of the Delta strain.
Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services Alister Henskens said state Government has committed $22.3 million to help members of the community sleeping on the street during the Delta outbreak.

"We're ramping up assertive outreach patrols across Greater Sydney to engage with people sleeping rough and offer them temporary accommodation," Mr Henskens said.
The NSW Government has also committed an additional $10 million for rent assistance packages to help victims of domestic violence and young people secure or maintain housing in the private rental market.

The most recent street count conducted by City of Sydney indicated roughly 272 people were sleeping rough in February of this year with another 288 in temporary crisis accommodation.
This is compared to 334 people on the street the same time in 2020.

The reduction in numbers comes after the expansion of the state's Together Home program aimed at addressing homelessness during the pandemic.
Since Together Home was established last year, more than 460 people who were sleeping rough have been helped into housing, after spending time in temporary accommodation.

A joint effort between the St Vincent de Paul's, Mission Australia, the Matthew Tabolt Centre and St Vincent's Hospital has also been working to vaccinate Sydney's homeless population.
Despite a widely-criticised vaccine rollout, the program has been largely successful with the majority of those living on the streets having received at least one dose.
