Paul Vaughan remains silent on Dragons lockdown breach

St George Dragons forward Paul Vaughan is remaining tight lipped after 14 NRL players were fined for attending a party he hosted during Sydney's lockdown.

The 30-year-old hosted the party at his house in Shellharbour, on the NSW South Coast, which has seen those who attended fined $1000 each by NSW police.

The NRL has also fined the players a total of $305,000.

Today, when Vaughan was approached on the streets outside his home, he refused to speak on the matter, ignoring 9News camera crews.

Players who attended Vaughan's party include Jack de Belin, Corey Norman, Jack Bird, Zac Lomax, Matt Dufty, Kaide Ellis, Tyrell Fuimaono and Blake Laurie.

Each player has also been handed breach notices by the league that will translate into time on the sidelines.

Earlier, NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys described the players breaching lockdown as an arrogant move.

Mr Worboys hit out at the breach on Today yesterday, saying the "vast majority" of Sydneysiders had been following stay-at-home orders.

"It is crazy that they think, one, that they can do it, and two, that they can get away with it," Deputy Commissioner Worboys said.

"I think there is a touch of arrogance about it.

"To their credit, they were cooperative with police when police finally went to the home and made those inquiries the next day."

The notice handed to Mr Vaughan, who hosted the party at his place of residence, proposes an eight-match suspension and a fine of $50,000.

The breach notice also takes into account Vaughan's prior biosecurity breach in 2020 and the fact that he withheld key information from the Integrity Unit.

9News reported that when NSW Police attended Vaughan's home, a number of the players allegedly tried to evade detection with some hiding under the bed and others running from the location.
