Review: FIFA 22 the most realistic and advanced soccer-sim yet

The latest release in the FIFA video game franchise is the most advanced and realistic version of the game yet.

There's a new game released every year — surely there's only so much they can change, right?

New tweaks and updates, new game modes, new playable characters and teams — it's arguably the most successful gaming franchise ever made.

EA's latest soccer simulator boasts a fresh look and gameplay, it's the first FIFA title to appear on the current generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

There's been versions of FIFA on almost every console ever made, dating back to the early '90s when FIFA International Soccer arrived on the Sega Megadrive.

When FIFA International Soccer launched in 1993 it was revolutionary, it was one of the most life-like video games the world had seen by that point.

FIFA 96 was the first one to arrive on PlayStation, a huge step forward for the franchise, alongside FIFA 64 - an exclusive for the Nintendo 64 console.

The original FIFA game launched in 1993 on the Sega Megadrive.

It's now been nearly 30 years since the original title and it's incredible to see how far, not only FIFA, but gaming as a whole has come.

FIFA 22 is by far the most realistic and advanced version of the game we've ever seen.

New technology has been implemented into the game called HyperMotion that brings a unique feel to the pitch, player's movements have never looked or felt more accurate.

HyperMotion technology may sound like a gimmick, but it truly is impressive.

FIFA 22 has received a complete animation overhaul with its HyperMotion technology

It was built by tracking and recording real players on field, the game takes that data and spits out thousands of new animations in real-time.

It's a true step-up from FIFA 21.

Local co-op multiplayer modes and online gameplay is prominent in FIFA 22, players can compete online with up to 22 others.

On PlayStation 5 players can feel every kick, tackle and goal with the assistance of the DualSense controller. It's a nice touch.

FIFA 22 is out now in Australia on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.
