Families reunited, while others spent Christmas Day in quarantine

Christmas Day celebrations have taken on many different forms in South Australia, with some families reuniting after months of being apart, while others are stuck in quarantine.

Thousands of people flew into Adelaide today to spend Christmas with their families, who many haven't seen in a while due to the COVID-19.

"(It's) just nice to be back and see family and friends we haven't seen in quite a while," traveller Liam Flanagan said.

People flew into Adelaide today to celebrate Christmas Day with their families.

Dimitrii Kapustin was separated for four years from his Russian family.

"(I'm) currently in denial that they're still standing beside me. Having four years of skype and facetiming, it's not the same," Mr Kapustin said.

Bella Shrestha flew to Adelaide to see her sister for Christmas.

"It's [a] very joyous, happy and exciting feeling," Ms Shrestha said.

But some weren't as lucky.

Jenelle Lea was one of the nearly 4,000 South Australians who had to spend Christmas in quarantine to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

"We don't realise until something like this happens what's it like to be isolated, on your own," Ms Lea said.

"I thought I was invincible…but I'm not," she added.

Remi Michael, who is also quarantining, said it had been tough.

Many families were reunites after months of being separated due to COVID-19.

"It's been quite hard without family. It's a lot different. We have to FaceTime people," he said.

"It feels like we're in jail. You can't travel, you can't go anywhere."

Housemates Sam, Riki, Mitch, Matt and Katya didn't expect to spend Christmas in isolation together but said they had made the most of it.

The group tested positive after a night out at the Loverboy nightclub on Hindley Street where an infected 19-year-old allegedly ignored stay-at-home orders and attended the venue.

"You yourself might not be vulnerable but think about the others that you love that might be," the housemates said.

South Australia recorded 634 new COVID-19 cases today.
