'Stolen' BMW set on fire and gunshots fired in Sydney's west

An allegedly stolen car has been set on fire and gunshots fired in Sydney's west overnight.

Police were called to Bennett Road, South Granville, about 10.30pm last night after there were reports of gunshots being fired.

No gunshot damage or injured people were found when police arrived.

A stolen car was allegedly set alight in South Granville overnight.

Officers were alerted to a car fire on Ostend Street, South Granville, shortly after.

Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze.

The BMW X5 - which police allege was stolen from a property at Elanora Heights in June 2021 - was extensively damaged by the blaze and will be forensically examined.

Three men, aged 20, 23 and 25, were arrested nearby.

All three were taken to Granville Police Station but have since been released pending further investigation.

A stolen car was allegedly set alight in South Granville overnight.

Detective Superintendent Paul Devaney said police have obtained CCTV footage that shows two men running from the car fire.

"CCTV shows two males running from the vehicle after a number of attempts trying to light the vehicle," he said.

He said they can only be described as wearing dark clothing.

Police are seeking public information about the car which was allegedly set alight and gunshots fired in South Granville.

Police received more information about the gunshots and attended the intersection of Wells and Clyd Streets in South Granville.

A Toyota Hilux ute was found with bullet damage to the front bulbar and has been towed for forensic examination.

"We are yet to identify the occupant of the Toyota Hilux and any motive of the shooting," Detective Superintendent Devaney said.

Police are investigating links to organised crime networks, he added.
