Ten arrested after high-speed chase across Melbourne

Ten males have been arrested after a high-speed, early morning police chase across Melbourne, which allegedly reached speeds higher than 170km/h.

The chase began when police spotted a stolen Volkswagen Tiguan and a stolen BMW sedan driving in convoy on Punt Road in Richmond, in Melbourne's inner suburbs, around 12.45am.

The two cars drove to Pascoe Vale Souths, in Melbourne's north, where the drivers split up as they tried to escape police about 1am.

Police on the ground and in the police helicopter then tracked the Volkswagen through the city and into the south-eastern suburbs as it allegedly reached speeds higher than 170km/h.

The car stopped in White Street, Parkdale where the driver let one person out, just before 1.40am.

The driver then continued on to Kidds Road, Doveton, where it was dumped about 2am.

The driver and his passengers then ran through parkland before they were picked up by a by a man driving a Honda sedan on James Cook Drive.

Police then followed the Honda to a house on Princes Highway, Hallam, where the men got out of the car and entered the house.

Police arrested ten males at the house.
