Wayne Carey says bag of white powder he dropped at casino was not illegal

AFL great Wayne Carey has been banned from Crown Resorts for two years after being found with a bag of white powder at a Perth Casino.

Carey was gambling at Crown Casino in Perth last Thursday when a zip lock bag containing a white powder fell out of his pocket.

Security was called and the 51-year-old admitted the white powder was his.

Carey says the white powder was not illegal, but he has been banned from all Crown venues for two years.

He was also thrown out of the Crown hotel where he was staying.

Carey last night denied the white powder was illegal, saying it was just crushed up anti-inflammatory drugs.

Carey was in Perth for commentating duties.

Channel 7 and Triple M have stood Carey down pending an investigation, as have Triple M.

He also writes a column for The Age.

The Age editor Gay Alcorn has said: ''We are aware of the story and will look into it in coming days.''

The Age is published by Nine, which is also the publisher of this website.
