Victorian man charged with murder after body found in Gold Coast backyard

A Victorian resident has been charged with murder after the body of a man was found in the backyard of Gold Coast property yesterday.

Queensland Police were called to a home on Lillian Crescent in Ashmore around 8.45am on Sunday for a welfare check.

When officers arrived, they found a body, believed to be that of a 62-year-old man, in the backyard.

Police immediately declared a crime scene and detectives launched a homicide investigation.

After inquiries, a 36-year-old Victorian man was found inside a vehicle of interest on Southport Nerang Road in Molendinar just before 1pm.

He was arrested and later charged with one count of murder and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The man will face Southport Magistrates Court today.

"Specialist scientific and forensic officers are in attendance conducting examinations," Queensland Police said.

"A mobile police facility has been deployed to the scene to assist investigations."

Police are asking anyone with information or CCTV of the area from overnight or this morning to come forward.
