Victoria's top cop has condoned the behaviour of a protective services officer who was filmed slapping a restrained 11-year-old boy during an arrest in Melbourne's south-east.
Footage has emerged online showing the boy being restrained by two officers at Noble Park station on Australia Day.
The boy repeatedly uses racial slurs and swears at the female officer before spitting on her.

She then slaps the boy in the face.
Speaking to Neil Mitchell on 3AW, Chief Commissioner of Police Shane Patton said he does not think the officer went "too far", calling the act a "redirection strike".
He said the incident had "been looked at" by authorities.
"At this stage we're comfortable with what's been done in relation to the matter."
