Teenager, pedestrian in critical condition after huge Melbourne crash

A teenager is in a critical condition after a huge car crash in Melbourne injured five people, including a pedestrian.

Police said the two-vehicle collision on Lygon Street in Carlton came after a Volkswagen Passat was seen driving erratically before crashing into an Alfa Romeo, which then spun out of control and hit a pedestrian.

Both the male pedestrian and a teenage woman who was in the Alfa Romeo were taken to hospital.

A teenage driver is in critical condition after a freak car accident that injured five people, including a Pedestrian.

While police initially said they both had life-threatening injures, they have since been changed to "critical". The teenager has a head injury.

The driver of the Alfa Romeo, a 61-year-old man, suffered minor injuries while the second passenger, his wife, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver of the Volkswagen, a 40-year-old male, was detained by bystanders until officers arrived at the scene.

He has since been taken to hospital under police guard with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said they still investigating the circumstances of the crash and are asking for anyone with dashcam footage to contact authorities.
