Man loses part of his vision after allegedly being attacked by skateboard rider

A man has lost part of his vision after he was allegedly bashed by an electric skateboard rider in Melbourne's bayside area in the middle of the day.

The 64-year-old Brighton man was allegedly hit multiple times from behind, with the attack continuing after he fell to the ground on The Esplanade in Brighton about 12.30pm on March 30.

Immediately beforehand, he had been driving behind a male on electric skateboard on Normanby Street and told police he had beeped at the rider to let him know he was behind him for safety reasons.

The skateboard rider, believed to be aged in his late teens to early 20s, then approached the man's car on The Esplanade, allegedly banging on the car and verbally abusing the man.

The man got out to try to calm the situation down.

He was walking back to his car when he was allegedly attacked from behind by the rider.

The rider then skated off toward Brighton Baths in the Elwood direction.

The man was left with significant injuries, including a fractured eye socket causing him to lose part of his vision.

Police are searching for the rider, who has a medium build and was wearing a white t-shirt, grey shorts and Nike shoes.
