Million dollar reward offered to crack 20-year-old cold case

Police have offered a $1 million reward for information into the murder of Victorian woman Marea Yann, who was found brutally beaten to death in her home some 20 years ago.

Yann, then aged 69, was found dead by her gardener on the morning of September 30, 2003, at her Healesville home - 52 kilometres north-east of Melbourne - on Juliet Crescent.

The mother-of-three was found sitting in her armchair in the loungeroom with extensive head and upper body injuries.

At the time, Yann was wearing a red jumper, black pants and slip on shoes, and hadn't yet been dressed for bed.

The television was still on when Yann was found, however there was no signs of forced entry into the home.

Police say her purse was on the floor at the time her body was discovered but no other items are believed to have been stolen from the house.

As a result of significant inquiries, it was determined by a coroner Yann had likely been murdered on the night of September 29.

Her last known conversation was with her daughter just after 8pm on the night of the suspected murder.

Some years later, a then 46-year-old man, who was known to Yann, was charged with murder in relation to her death in February 2006.

He was later acquitted at trial, and as such, the case remains unsolved.

A well liked woman in the area, who worked at a local opportunity shop and had many friends, police say it's likely there is someone out there with information into Yann's death.

She had lived at her final address for six years after having moved from Acheron.

Her husband had passed away in 1984 and she had three adult children, two daughters and a son.

A reward of up to $1 million will be paid at the discretion of the Chief Commissioner of Police for information leading to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death.

Anyone with information should contact police direct or Crime Stoppers.
