Protesters block major Melbourne intersection during peak hour

Extinction Rebellion protesters have blocked a major intersection in Melbourne CBD during peak hour.

Up to 100 protesters took over the intersection of Latrobe and Queen streets at about 8am, blocking traffic for about 20 minutes before moving down Latrobe Street.

They were met by a very strong police presence.

Today is the first of three days that the climate change activist group has planned to create disruptions in the heart of the city.

It comes after climate activists blocked off a major freeway exit during peak hour on Tuesday.

Climate activists blocked off the Kings Way inbound exit ramp from the West Gate Freeway at about 8.30am.

Police were on the scene and had reopened one lane by about 9.30am, but activists remained.
