'Very brazen': Sydney man shot and killed as he sat in his car outside his home

The victim of a deadly shooting in western Sydney has been identified as Marvin Oraiha, aged in his 20s, who was found slumped in a seat of a car, riddled with bullet wounds.

Investigations are continuing this morning after the fatal shooting at Elizabeth Hills.

Police described the incident as "very brazen" and have not ruled out potential gangland links.

9News understands from family members Oraiha had just said goodbye to his mother and sister who had arrived at the home from the school pick-up.

He was in the driver's seat of his car when he was shot multiple times.

Police are investigating if Oraiha had any low-level links with the Comanchero outlaw motorcycle gang, but it is not believed he was a member.

A man who lived close by said the killing had shocked the local community.

"He was very good. I'm very sad for him. Whole family is sad, you know," he told 9News.

"We don't know - we don't know why. And his family don't know what happened with him."

New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb told Today the shooting was "very brazen" and detectives were examining potential organised crime links.

She said investigations were at a "very open" stage.

"We have three crime scenes that we're processing.

"Obviously the scene in Elizabeth Hill, and two locations where cars were located burnt-out. It is very early days. And detectives are on the ground."

Webb said officers from Strikeforce Erebus - set up last year to tackle gang violence - were part of the investigation.

Police are investigating whether a car fire on Bluff Street in the neighbouring suburb of Green Valley is linked.

Webb said police were continuing to investigate whether another burnt-out car found at Bonnyrigg Heights was also linked.
