Elderly man dies after car crashes into embankment in NSW

An elderly man has died and an elderly woman has survived after their car crashed into an embankment in northern NSW.

Emergency services went to River Street in Maclean, about an hour south of Ballina, after the single car crash about 2.40pm yesterday.

"Officers attached to Coffs-Clarence Police District arrived to find a Honda Hatchback had crashed into an embankment," NSW Police said in a statement.

An elderly man has died after a car crashed into an embankment on River Street in Maclean in NSW's north.

"The 91-year-old male passenger of the vehicle was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital where he died."

The 85-year-old woman was taken to Maclean Hospital for mandatory testing.

The car has been seized by police for forensic examination and a crime scene has been established as police investigate.
