4WD snatch straps sold for more than five years recalled

Snatch straps used to recover four-wheel-drives have been recalled from hardware stores across the country after it was found they did not comply with Australian standards.

The Lion 4WD Recovery Snatch Straps do not comply with mandatory standards because they do not come with the necessary warning label that is required to be permanently attached to the straps.

"A sheet containing required instructions for use is also missing from the product," the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has advised.

The ACCC has warned this is a "risk of severe injury or death to users or bystanders if recovery straps are used incorrectly".

The recalled models include LA400A7 - 6000kg capacity, LA400A10 - 10,000kg capacity and LA400C6 - 11,000kg capacity, supplied as part of the 6-piece 4WD Recovery Kit.

Snatch straps are used to recover vehicles, often off-road, when they have become bogged or stuck.

A lead vehicle uses the elasticity of the strap to pull a stuck vehicle free from an obstacle.

These are the required warnings missing.

They were sold at Mitre 10, True Value Hardware, Home Hardware and Thrifty Link Hardware stores across Australia from January 2017 until June this year.

Anyone who has the straps are advised to stop using them and check if they are missing the permanent warning label and instructions for use.
