Security will be ramped up at the Australian National University after a man faced court on attempted murder charges over the alleged stabbing of two female students.
Officials at the Canberra university announced the measures in the wake of Alex Ophel, 24, a former student at the university, allegedly attacking students on Monday.
ANU deputy vice chancellor Sally Wheeler said the university was now boosting security patrols around the campus as a result of the incident.

"The university has a wide range of measures in place to ensure our community's safety," Wheeler said.
"We have comprehensive security infrastructure and processes in place, including cameras, [safety] officers, patrols, lighting, emergency phones and contact points."
Wheeler said the incident on Monday was "isolated and extremely rare".
Police allege that Ophel hit a man on the head with a frying pan at about 2.40pm yesterday.
The 24-year-old is then accused of stabbing a 20-year-old woman multiple times, before chasing a second 20-year-old woman and stabbing her.

He then allegedly approached a second man and punched him in the face.
All of the victims were university students.
The 24-year-old man was arrested and has now been charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault, and one count of possessing an object to be used to kill.
Police do not believe he knew the victims.
Ophel appeared in court yesterday and was remanded in custody to reappear next month.
