100kg of pseudoephedrine uncovered as three arrested in Sydney

Three men have been arrested after 100kg of pseudoephedrine was found in a drug bust by NSW Police.

Police uncovered $200,000 in cash, scales, a money counter and luxury jewellery, as well as 100kg of pseudoephedrine in a combined search effort of a Homebush storage unit and five properties in Lakemba, Roselands, Wiley Park and Jordan Springs at 3pm on Friday.

While pseudoephedrine is used legally in medication like cold and flu tablets, it is a major ingredient in drugs like methamphetamine.

Police allege the men were involved in a drug syndicate, with enough pseudoephedrine to produce $30 million in methamphetamine.

The men aged 49, 46 and 36 were found inside the storage unit in Homebush, and have been arrested and charged with multiple offences. 

The 49-year-old was charged with supplying a prohibited drug more than or equal to a large commercial quantity, supplying a prohibited drug equal to a commercial quantity, supplying a prohibited drug more than an indictable offence but less than a commercial quantity, and participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity.

The 46-year-old was charged with nine offences including three counts of supplying a prohibited drug more than or equal to a large commercial quantity, supplying a prohibited drug more than or equal to a commercial quantity, two counts of supplying a prohibited drug more than an indictable offence but less than a commercial quantity, knowingly directing the activity of a criminal group, knowingly dealing with the proceeds of a crime and recklessly dealing with the proceeds of a crime more than $5000.

The 36-year-old was charged with eight offences, including three counts of supplying a prohibited drug more than or equal to a large commercial quantity, supplying a prohibited drug more than or equal to a commercial quantity, participating in a criminal group and criminal activity, knowingly dealing with the proceeds of a crime, recklessly dealing with the proceeds of a crime more than $5000 and supplying a prohibited drug more than an indictable offence but less than a commercial quantity.

Investigations under the operation are still continuing.

All three were refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court today.
