Officeworks recalls clock due to 'risk of choking and death'

A digital desk clock sold at Officeworks has been recalled due to its button battery not being properly secured.

The clock, which retailed for $24.95, was available for sale at Officeworks stores nationally from October 3, 2022 until September 29 this year, when it was pulled from shelves.

The clock did not comply with the mandatory standards for products containing button or coin batteries, an alert issued on Wednesday by the ACCC's Product Safety Australia said.

A clock sold at Officeworks has been recalled over button battery fears.

"There is a risk of choking, severe internal burn injuries or death to young children if they gain access to the button batteries and swallow or insert them," the alert said.

"Once ingested, severe or fatal injuries can happen in 2 hours or less."

Officeworks customers are being urged to stop using the Otto desk clock immediately.

Customers who had bought the clock are being urged to stop using the product immediately.

The clock can be returned to any Officeworks store for a full refund.
