"There's quite an intense low down in Tasmania bringing widespread wet weather and strong to damaging winds for Tasmania, as well as southern parts of Victoria and the very far southeastern corner of South Australia," Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist, Angus Hines told Today.
A gale wind warning has been issued for Victoria's west coast for Saturday, while the central and east coast have been issued with strong wind warnings.
Further north, total fire bans have been enforced as firefighters battle 39 bushfires across New South Wales.
Fire danger ratings have reached extreme as more hot weather is expected over the next two days.
"We have widespread high fire dangers today, particularly west of the rangers, and we've got these total fire bans that are now in place," Deputy Commissioner Peter McKenchnie told Today.
"It's another challenging day for firefighters ahead of what will be a number of challenging conditions."
Fire bans have also been enforced in northern Queensland, as hot weather is forecast while fires continue to burn at advice level across the state.
