Teen dies, five injured after ute hit tree in Sydney

One teenager has died and another five have been injured after their ute slammed into a tree on Sydney's northern beaches.

Officers found six injured boys when they arrived at Cabbage Tree Road in Bayview and saw their Toyota Hilux had hit a tree about 12.20am.

One teenager has died and another five have been injured after their ute slammed into a tree in Sydney's northern beaches.

"The 17-year-old red P-plate driver was airlifted to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital," NSW Police said in a statement.

They later confirmed the boy had died.

"Four boys travelling in the back seat – one aged 16 and three aged 17 – remain in Royal North Shore Hospital."

The crash investigation unit is making inquiries.
