Man dead after minibus crash in New South Wales' central west

A man has died after a minibus and a car collided in New South Wales' central west overnight.

Emergency services were called Fitzroy Avenue in Cowra about 10.40pm yesterday after a Toyota HiAce Minibus rolled following a collision with a Kia Sorento.

The Kia had also hit a nearby street sign before the driver fled the scene.

Fatal crash at Cowra in central west New South Wales

Responding officers discovered an 84-year-old male passenger who had been ejected from the minibus.

The man died at the scene.

The driver of the minibus, a 61-year-old woman, and four other passengers suffered minor injuries.

Of the passengers, three were taken to Cowra Hospital for further treatment.

Following inquiries, police spoke to the owner of the Kia, a 32-year-old man.

He was taken to Cowra Hospital for mandatory testing before he was released pending further investigations.

A crime scene has been established with specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit pictured attending the site this morning.

An investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the crash and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
