Popular smart tag sold at Kmart recalled nationally

A popular tech item sold at Kmart stores nationally has been recalled over choking hazards associated with the button/coin batteries.

The ANKO Smart Tag, which is compatible with Apple devices that have the Apple Find My iPhone app, was taken off shelves last month.

The product is similar to an Apple Air Tag.

Product Safety Australia recalled the item due to the product not complying with mandatory information standards for products containing button/coin batteries.

The consumer watchdog said the product did not include the required warning information.

"There is a risk of choking, severe internal burn injuries or death to young children if they gain access to the button/coin batteries and swallow or place them inside their body," the recall said.

"Severe or fatal injuries can happen in 2 hours or less.

"Consumers may not be aware that the product contains a button battery."

People who have purchased the product should keep the product out of reach of children, and should contact Kmart to receive the warning information.

The tag was sold nationally both in-store and online from December 28 last year until January 16.
