Six men charged in Victoria over $15 million illicit tobacco importation

Six men have been charged today over allegedly trying to import 10 million illicit cigarettes into Victoria worth about $15 million.

All the accused are from Melbourne and some have alleged links to a suspected Middle Eastern crime family, police say.

They were arrested after a 16-month investigation by the Australian Federal Police, Victoria Police and Australian Border Force.

Authorities will allege some of the men work for freight and transport logistics companies in trusted positions.

Police will provide an update at 10.30am today.
