Wind-battered residents in New South Wales and Victoria can expect some respite today before a fresh burst of extreme weather sweeps in.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning this morning for a large area of central and eastern Victoria as well as southeastern NSW, including the Illawarra region, south of Sydney.
Forecasters say the damaging winds yesterday that caused a man's death and left 6000 homes without power in Victoria will redevelop over eastern and south-eastern parts of the state from tonight.

Gusts averaging 60km/h to 70 km/h, but capable of reaching over 100km/h in alpine areas, are possible in both states from this evening, the bureau says.
There is also a gale warning for a large part of the Victorian coast today, including Port Philip and the Gippsland region. In NSW, there is a strong wind warning for the Eden coast.
State Emergency Service workers across NSW and Victoria were kept busy yesterday responding to hundreds of calls for help.

Residents are continuing to count the damage from the destructive weather today.
In an update this morning, energy provider Powercor said it had restored power to most of its affected customers.

Southwestern parts of Western Australia can also expect a blast of the damaging weather today.
Gusts ranging from 90km/h to 100 km/h are possible from this morning and will impact Albany, Bunbury, Esperance, Mandurah and the Margaret River.
