Parts of the nation lap up the sun as winter comes to an end

It may still be winter, but parts of the country will be sweating through summer heat this weekend.

Brisbane will be 35 degrees and sunny today while the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast will be a toasty 33 degrees, with parts of the state further west are expected to hit close to 40 degrees. 

It will be a little windy, with 25 to 40km/h winds expected during the morning.

Queensland's hot weather is expected to stick around until Tuesday.

In Sydney, temperatures will hit a warm 25 degrees, with 20 to 40km winds expected until the late afternoon.

It will be even warmer tomorrow, with Sydney forecast to hit 27 degrees. 

Other parts of NSW, including Newcastle and Wollongong, will reach 25 degrees today with the same windy conditions, before winds ease tomorrow.

On Sunday, Newcastle and Wollongong are forecast to hit 28 degrees.

NSW residents have been told to stay alert as bushfire danger remains high throughout the weekend.

The Northern Territory will also remain sunny at a hot 33 degrees today and tomorrow in Darwin.

Other states and territories won't be seeing much sunshine, as rain is forecast for parts of Victoria, the ACT, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania.

In Melbourne, a shower or two is expected in the morning and late evening, with a high chance of rain in the Dandenongs.

The same cloudy and rainy conditions are expected on Sunday. 

In Adelaide, temperatures will peak at 19 degrees over both Saturday and Sunday, with a high chance of rain on both days, between 4 to 8mm.

Perth will be 19 degrees today with a medium chance of showers, with similar conditions forecast for tomorrow.

NSW won't be sharing the sunshine with the ACT this weekend, as wind and rain are forecast for the territory, with temperatures expected to sit at a cool 16 degrees today, and a slightly warmer 18 degrees tomorrow.

In Hobart, it will be a cold 13 degrees with a very high chance of rain on both Saturday and Sunday.
