Stolen tiny home found after police search in New Zealand

A tiny home that was stolen from a Christchurch property has been found with the assistance of members of the public, police say.

The home, on Sandwich Road in Beckenham, was taken last Monday. Its owner, Kat Calvert, said six metres of fence had been removed before the home was towed away.

Calvert earlier took to social media to appeal for help in tracking down the stolen home.

"It's incredibly sentimental to me, as it was my mum's home for years before she went into dementia care," Calvert wrote on Facebook.

"It contains special items such as my mum's artwork, and other Finnish things special to me. It was a home."

Calvert said it was likely the house was stolen and driven towards the river, which she believed was being pulled by a dark/black 4WD with a grey van following behind.

"Tiny Home spotted on side of the road in Opawa area, with tyres being pumped up on Monday about 4pm," she wrote.

"One female and two males who were cagey about being spoken to on Wilson's Road."

Police said on Monday they had found the tiny home after multiple tips from members of the public.

A 40-year-old man had been charged with burglary and appeared in court on Monday, a spokesperson said.

He was also facing earlier charges of entering two other properties with intent, and recklessly receiving a car that may have been stolen, The Press reported.

After the arrest, Culvert updated her Facebook post.

"You have restored my faith in the kindness and compassion of people," she said.

"We honestly don't know if we've got my mum's home back - it looks like these people destroyed it... Thank you so much."
