Driver penalised after taking 'wide load' to extremes

A 53-year-old man was hit with a number of infringement notices after he was pulled over in Sydney's far south-west.

The Catherine Field man was driving a Mitsubishi Fuso tipper truck carrying a steel frame load on Finns Road, Menangle, on October 31.

When police pulled him over, they found the frame overhanging the tray by 65cm on one side and 72cm on the other.

The maximum permissible overhang is 15cm.

Police said there was no warning sign on the vehicle to warn fellow motorists about the width of the load.

They also found the truck's registration had expired two months ago, and the driver was uninsured.

The man was issued with several infringement notices and told to not continue moving the steel frame until he was able to do so safely in another, registered vehicle.
