Pickle jar that went viral online recalled from Kmart, Target

A pickle-storing jar that gained viral attention online has been pulled from shelves after some users were injured.

The Anko glass flip pickle jar, sold through Kmart and Target, was a hit online with users showing videos of how pickles, olives, and other fermented foods could be stored, and the liquid drained to a second compartment when the owner wanted to eat.

However, in its recall notice, Product Safety Australia said the jar could potentially pose a danger.

"The affected product can break when used to store certain fruit or vegetables in liquid," the notice read.

"Fermented food stored in affected products can build up gas and cause the jar to explode or make the lid difficult to remove."

PSA warned that people risked serious injury from lacerations in such a case, and confirmed that injuries had occurred.

Owners should stop using the jar "immediately" and return it to Kmart or Target for a fall refund.
