Police launch manhunt after man shot at Melbourne shopping strip

Police are investigating after a man was shot outside a cafe at a shopping strip in south-west Melbourne last night.

Emergency services were called to a small shopping precinct on Borrack Square in Altona North last night about 11.30pm.

A 49-year-old man, who was shot outside Cafe Squared, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A crime scene has been established at the shopping strip in Altona North where the shooting took place.

Those involved fled the scene in a car.

Hours later, about 2.50am, the offenders torched the car and left it burning at the intersection of McArthurs and Chambers roads - around 800 metres from where the shooting took place.

A crime scene has been established and the investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing, Victoria Police said.

The shooting happened outisde a cafe at the Borrack Square shopping strip in Altona North.
