Man to face court after dousing wife in petrol and setting her alight

A man will face court after allegedly dousing his wife in petrol and setting her alight in Sydney's west overnight.

At about 6pm, authorities were called to a home on Elizabeth Drive, Liverpool after reports of a domestic dispute.

When they arrived, they found a 30-year-old woman suffering burns to left leg and hand.

Police say the woman's husband, aged 36, doused her in petrol and then flicked a lit cigarette towards her causing the woman's clothes to go up in flames.

The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Liverpool Hospital for further treatment. She has since been released.

The man was arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

He was refused bail and will face Parramatta Local Court today.
