Body found inside burning car in Melbourne

A body has been found inside a car on fire in Melbourne's southeast.

Police and emergency services are combing through the scene at Cranbourne this morning as they investigate the death.

The car was set alight in a reserve near Vega Crescent just after 3.30am.

The body was discovered inside the car after the fire had been extinguished.

A caller to Triple Zero reported the fire to emergency crews, with firefighters arriving at the scene within seven minutes.

"Upon arrival, crews found a car in a field was well alight, with the fire spreading to the surrounding grass," a Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said.

"Firefighters worked quickly to attack the fire, bringing it under control within five minutes of arrival."

Police are yet to determine if the death is suspicious and the investigation is ongoing.
