Coal train crashes into truck in Upper Hunter

A coal train has smashed into a truck in the Upper Hunter, New South Wales, and 9News understands the driver has been seriously injured.

The 29-year-old driver was trapped in wreckage, after the train ploughed into the truck at a level crossing near Scone, 150 kilometres north-west of Newcastle.

The man, who 9News understands suffered head and chest injuries, was freed and has been rushed to Scone Hospital.

The driver will likely be airlifted to John Hunter Hospital, 9News understands.
