A man has been charged with murder after a woman was allegedly assaulted and set alight near the New South Wales border with Victoria.
The 42-year-old woman sustained significant head injuries before allegedly being set on fire at a home in Deniliquin, NSW Police said.
A male senior constable suffered burns to his hands while attempting to help the woman.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, the woman died at the scene.
A 31-year-old man, who was known to the woman, was arrested at the home and taken to Deniliquin Police Station.
He was subsequently charged with murder (DV) and refused bail to appear at Deniliquin Local Court today.
