Mokbel, who is serving a 30-year sentence for drug trafficking, has had several health issues during his sentence.

He was taken to hospital last year after suffering chest pains.

Prior to that, he went into cardiac arrest after being stabbed with a makeshift shiv in 2019.

Since that incident, he's been in isolation in prison.

Mokbel fled Australia in 2006 while facing multiple drugs charges, and was charged in absentia with murder, for which he was ultimately acquitted.

He was arrested as a fugitive in Greece in 2007 and returned to Australia in 2008, where he began serving time in jail on a previous sentence, which has since been quashed.

He was convicted in 2012 while already behind bars, and sentenced to a 30-year term.
