Bali deports six Australians so far this year amid crackdown

Bali has already deported 93 foreigners from the island this year, leaving it well on track to surpass 2022, as the country seeks to crack down on bad behaviour.

According to local media, authorities are getting tougher on lawbreakers.

Bali Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Anggiat Napitupulu told the Bali Times that 93 foreigners in Bali had been deported from Indonesia between January 1 and April 17 this year.

That's already close to half of the 194 deportations recorded last year.

Australians are the third-worst offenders by nation, with six deported.

But Russians were the biggest rulebreakers, with 24 gone so far in 2023, followed by Nigerians with seven, and the US alongside Australia with six.

Most of those were deported over visa or permit violations and other legal breaches.

It comes amid a crackdown announced in recent weeks by Bali's governor Wayan Koster.

And now, officials have told the Bali Sun that they are planning an official guidebook to let tourists know what is and is not good behaviour.

Napitupulu told reporters on the weekend that not all foreigners knew what was permitted and what wasn't on the island.

"We hope to accelerate the completion of the guidebook or guidance book dos and don'ts," he said.

9news.com.au has contacted the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to confirm the deportation of the Australians.
