Already 800000 people in online lounge as final Taylor Swift tickets go on sale

It's now or never for millions of Taylor Swift's Australian fans, with the general sale for Sydney now open, followed by the Melbourne sale at 2pm.

Two additional shows were added to Taylor Swift's Australian tour after demand for tickets set an all time high for Ticketek.

Around four million people attempted to purchase tickets on Wednesday during the Frontier Touring presale, and it is believed that around 800,000 people are already in the online lounge to buy tickets today.

Taylor Swift Era Australian tour

Sydney and Melbourne had one show added to Taylor's stops on the tour, in a move designed to ease the unprecedented demand for tickets.

The extra shows made around 180,000 extra tickets available.

Ticketek has not confirmed how many tickets were sold in the presales, or how many remain up for grabs.

Ticketek confirmed on Wednesday that around 4 million people attempted to buy tickets during the Frontier Touring Presale.

Besides fans in Sydney and Melbourne, that included hopeful customers from Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and even abroad.

Swifities in New Zealand were snubbed, with no tour dates planned for Australia's island neighbour.

Presale ticket allocation exhausted within three hours

On Wednesday, some fans woke at the crack of dawn to load up the Ticketek website and jump into the online queue but it was no guarantee for a pre-sale ticket.

The allocation of presale tickets for the three Sydney shows was exhausted three hours after the online gates opened at 10am.

The Melbourne tickets sold just as quickly.

Despite concerns about the website's stability, the Ticketek website appeared to hold up under the massive influx of traffic for both Melbourne and Sydney tickets.

A Ticketek spokesperson said over half a billion bot accounts attempted to buy tickets during the presale, but were successfully repelled from the system.

After the chaotic start to the AMEX presale, Ticketek Australia said: "Our systems are designed to manage these high-demand events.

"We do this every day, we're prepared."

Aside from some isolated incidents of the Ticketek app crashing, most fan frustrations were directed at the queuing system, which gatekept access for the tickets.

Ticketek and Frontier Touring shared their general tips for securing tickets, which included creating an account in advance, having presale codes ready and not closing or refreshing the browser while waiting.
