Sydney man punched in face by stranger in random attack police say

A has been left with facial injuries after he was attacked by a stranger in The Rocks, Sydney, last night, police say.

Officers were told the 32-year-old was waiting with friends for a ride-share when a taxi stopped nearby.

The man was taken to hospital with facial injuries.

A passenger jumped out of the taxi and allegedly punched the man in the face.

Police say the pair did not know each other.

The alleged perpetrator fled in the taxi while the man sought help at a nearby convenience store.

Police say the man did not know his alleged attacker.

The 32-year-old was taken to St Vincent's Hospital where he was treated for facial lacerations, and shock.

Police have launched an investigation into the alleged assault and are asking witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
