Victoria's south-west rattled by 5.0 magnitude earthquake

A 5.0-magnitude earthquake has rattled residents in Victoria's south-west, with thousands of people reporting feeling the early morning tremor.

Geoscience Australia said the earthquake was recorded at 2.11am near Colac, about 150m from Melbourne, at a depth of 7km.

Emergency services said there was little to no damage and no injuries reported following the quake.

An advice warning has been issued to urge residents living near Colac to be wary of falling trees.

Shaking was felt by more than 4700 people, according to Geoscience Australia.

There was a 3.5 aftershock recorded near Apollo Bay at 5.40am.
