Aldi food-maker recalled over potential illness risk

An ice cream maker sold at Aldi has been recalled over a potential risk it could cause serious illness.

The recall for the Ambiano Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker, model number IA5554, was issued yesterday.

The machine's freezer bowl contains clear-coloured coolant, Product Safety Australia said.

If the bowl is pierced, the coolant could commingle with the ice cream mixture during the mixing process.

PSA said in its recall notice that this defect had already taken place.

There is a risk of people developing serious illness if they eat the coolant.

Owners should immediately stop using the machine, and return it to their nearest Aldi store for a full refund.

Contact Aldi for more information on 1300 777 137 from 9am-4.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am-3pm Saturday, or on the Aldi recall helpline (13 25 34) 8.30am-5.30pm Monday to Friday.

Customers can also find more information about Aldi recalls online.

Anybody who believes they or somebody else has eaten ice cream containing coolant should seek medical assistance or contact the Poisons Information Centre on 131 126.
