Man, woman dead after being struck by train in northern Sydney

A man and a woman are dead after they were hit by a train in Sydney's far north overnight.

Shortly after midnight, emergency services were called to Berowra Railway Station.

9News understands a man in his 20s was attempting to help a woman in her 30s off the tracks when the train struck.

Police are treating the incident as misadventure.

The pair were treated by paramedics, however, they died at the scene.

They have not been formally identified.

Two people were killed at Berowra train station overnight.

Rail services between Hornsby and Gosford were suspended for about two hours, but have now re-opened.

Police are investigating the incident.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
