'Do not take this sign': Liberals issue cheeky warning to teal MP

The Liberal Party's candidate in the Melbourne seat of Kooyong has called out sitting teal MP Monique Ryan in a new attack over campaign signage.

There is now a new board placed next to Amelia Hamer signs asking Ryan supporters to leave signs alone.

It comes after Ryan's husband Peter Jordan was filmed ripping a Liberal sign off a fence last week.

"Monique, please DO NOT take this sign!" the campaign sign reads.

More than 200 of these signs have been distributed as part of Hamer's campaign.

Ryan, who in the last federal election campaigned for improved integrity in politics, has since apologised for her husband's actions.

"It should not have happened," the MP said in a statement. "All concerns around signage should be reported to council."

The episode is the latest in a tit-for-tat dispute over election campaign material.

Last month Ryan posted photos on social media showing campaign signs where her teeth had been coloured with black marker with the caption, "reasons why we need to get dental in Medicare".

In 2022, Ryan defeated former Liberal treasurer Josh Frydenberg in Kooyong, traditionally a blue-chip Coalition seat.

But she is now facing a strong Liberal fightback, holding a slim 2.2 per cent margin in her favour.
